nline accounting has been the ‘coming thing’ for many years. Now it is here and ready for clients of all sizes to use. Choosing the right package is important. We support different solutions for different business needs – and don’t force clients down a particular route.
We have spent a lot of time evaluating three or four potential online accounting services. Our concerns were all about the functions of the software; the ease of use; the security; and the relevance to our clients.
We can use all these programs and we always believe in choosing the best program for the client. We do not have a sole recommended option.
However, we do suggest that our clients look at Kashflow as we believe it meets all the criteria for the majority of our clients.
In addition, we had been very concerned that the lack of reliability of some broadband services. This meant that trying to use the cloud services was frustrating and not of as much benefit as the services could be.
Until recently, we could not recommend any package as being sufficient reliable across the broadband services. Recently we have been much more impressed with both the software and the reliability of available broadband services.
If you have (nominal) broadband speeds of 4Mb or more, then the cloud may be for you, and we recommend that you look at Kashflow as having all the likely services you may need. If you have other needs, then please contact us for other potentially suitable services.
We are also a Xero certified advisor, meaning that we can give you expert advice on implementing and operating Xero to the ultimate level.
We also partner with FreeAgent who offer an excellent, simple to use, product which we feel is particularly beneficial to contractors and especially those working overseas, as the foreign currency recording is excellent.
If you want a one month free trial of FreeAgent, then please get in touch with Angus for more information.
Online accounting and Making Tax Digital
If you move to online accounting then meeting all the requirements for Making Tax Digital will be much easier. We can’t guarantee it will be painless, as HMRC really, really, don’t understand how it is going to impact businesses; and their guidance is – frankly – useless.
To find out more about how the software we support can help you, read this guide to MTD prepared by our friends at FreeAgent.

Post Brexit the VAT landscape could look totally different. (a) almost start again and build new rules (b) abolish VAT on B2B transactions (c) adhere to current and future EU laws.
