Payroll rescue

[We received an initial email enquiry at 23:05 on 23 December 2014, as a result of their payroll system and backups crashing and all electronic data being lost. The December payroll for over 30 staff needed to be run. This email was received from the client at 15:08 on 24 December 2014]

Sue,

I can confirm that I have received all of these documents. I can also confirm that all is in order and therefore the RTI can be sent to HMRC.

Thank you for the fantastic service that you have provided – above our reasonable expectations, especially at this time of year. Very much appreciated. Look forward to working with you as we go forward.

As a point the accountant that I use (nice guys in Scotland) were happy to go through the dates I had after about 10 month and advise me on what was needed before the year was up free of charge (do tend to get emails at 8pm as well) so im in a position where im happy to pay them as they put in the work for it.

“The finest accountants in Scotland”

I have no business admin knowledge whatsoever, but Nicolson Accountancy helped me to develop simple but effective systems to control my business.

You are surely the finest chartered accountants in Scotland!

Aqualife Services Ltd offers a labour intensive fish vaccinating service to the Norwegian and Scottish aquaculture industries.

The company’s head office is in Stirling, Scotland with a satellite office in the North of Norway.

For many years the company struggled with complying with Norwegian corporate and employee tax and insurance laws and the integration of these with UK tax laws. These difficulties resulted in the Company being subject to a Norwegian tax bill of almost £1.2 million dating back to 2007 and made up of tax already paid to the UK exchequer and penalties for non payment.

These problems were compounded by the fact we had a Norwegian accountancy firm and a large Scottish accountancy firm working for us and communication between the two was difficult. Our Scottish firm claimed that they had close associations with overseas accountancy firms through the Moores Stephens organisation but in reality the association didn’t work and the UK firm much as they said they were interested in doing overseas work in actual fact were only really interested in the UK stuff that they knew.

After suffering this situation for 2 years and in some desperation we contacted Nicolson Accountants through their website.

What a breath of fresh air! They don’t hide behind international organisations like Moore Stephens. They get out there and find out how things actually work on the ground. They understood the problems we were having and helped formulate a plan of attack to try and get round them. For the first time in years we were able to actually be proactiveFish vaccinators in Scotland and Norway recommend us in addressing our problems. But not only that, Nicolsons took over the day to day running of our Norwegian accounts and took over as our UK accountants and for the first time in 16 years we were able to properly integrate our UK and Norwegian operations giving us the perfect platform to really grow our business.

I cannot recommend the personal service and ability to rise to any challenge that Sue and Angus offer us enough. Like us they are building a dynamic, strong business so they know exactly where we are coming from. That is truly powerful and so refreshingly different from some of the big guys in Scotland today.

And the tax case? Well with all the help from Nicolson’s our liability went from £1.2 mill to zero. It doesn’t get much better that that!

From our perspective, the Norwegian tax service you provide us is excellent; very professional and second to none.

I don’t now of any other company we deal with that are available even during holidays, and no matter how tight a deadline we have had to deal with, you are always able to help us meet it.

It is a great comfort to know that there is such a knowledgeable and professional service to support us and we have no hesitation in recommending you and your firm to anyone.

We first met Nicolson Accountancy in 2004, when Cambrian Caledonian Limited opened the Arnish wind turbine tower construction yard. Having advertised for an accounts manager, we received a letter from Nicolson Accountancy proposing that we consider outsourcing this requirement. We met with them, and were very impressed with Nicolson’s commercial focus, professional knowledge and human face. Accordingly, Nicolson began to provide accounting services which went well beyond the remit we had originally planned, including, among other things, technical accounting advice and accounting manager services, payroll, and tax planning advice.

The quality of the service was such that Camcal’s parent company, Senergy, began to use their payroll services too. Redfield Consulting, a minority owner of Camcal, also began to use Nicolson as its accountant at this time.

Since 2006, Nicolson Accountancy has been Redfield’s accountant and payroll manager. It’s always said that if you want something done, you should ask a busy person to do it, and this is true for Nicolson. Any accounting issues which arise are dealt with by Angus or Sue, professionally, quickly and inexpensively. As a non-accountant, it’s a pleasure to deal with an accountant who can explain what needs to be done in layman’s terms, whilst demonstrating professional expertise and commercial understanding.

I have recommended Nicolson Accountancy’s professional services on a number of occasions in the past, and will continue to do so. Equally, as opportunities to use them arise in future, I will look forward to working with them further.

The Volunteer Centre Western Isles is a small local charity who have benefited from the support of Nicolson Accountancy for many years. Not only have they provided our organisation with advice and support on a voluntary basis but have also audited our accounts each year at a discounted rate.Volunteer Centre Western Isles recommend Nicolson Accountancy

Angus and his team are always friendly, supportive and professional – a genuine pleasure to work with. Their support to us and the wider community was compounded further when in 2010 and 2012 they sponsored our biannual Volunteering Awards. Without their generous support it would have been difficult to run these awards.
